What is a Hair Mask?
Many may ask what is the difference between a conditioner and a mask. To make it simple, a hair mask can be a conditioner, but a conditioner can never be a mask. In a conditioner the percentage and amount of active ingredients used are far less than those used in a mask. The intensity of a condition can never be the same as a mask no mater how long you leave it on your hair.
It make logic that the longer a product is in contact with your hair and scalp the more the active ingredients have the chance to penetrate and do what they have been designed to do. Therefore the amount of time that a mask is left on the hair and scalp plays an important role in the overall effect of the product. A mask could be seen as a conditioner when the product is used in a typical wash/condition and go! meaning that the mask spends very little time on the hair and scalp and therefore its intensity is reduce dramatically and so it acts more like a conditioner. Imagine if we apply this rule to a conditioner, the noticeable effects will be negligible given the reduced amount of active ingredients a conditioner carries.
So is you want a hydrating hair mask to work to its maximum potential, then it is paramount that you leave the product in contact with your hair and scalp for as long as possible. In normal use anything from 5-15 minutes is recommended, but once a week a minimum of a couple of hours is preferable, and will show in the overall condition, look and feel of your hair.
